Greenmarket Kalenić
Belgrade
The biggest and certainly the most famous Belgrade greenmarket, Kalenic, is located in the center of the smallest city municipality of Vracar. Vračar’s greenmarket has been in existence since 1926, it was built on 'Kalenić threshing floor' - a plot which was one of the numerous endowments of the rich trader Vlajko Kalenić. When you want to see the real life of a city, it's best to go to the city's greenmarket. Kalenic greenmarket - a colorful 'empire' of everything and anything. A stunning place in the heart of Belgrade that offers a special experience - a crash of different worlds, rich and poor, young and old, ruined and polished, educated and those less educated ... Kalenic greenmarket is a place that knows no difference, a place that 'warms' the soul of Belgrade, but also souls of all those who come to the capital. Greenmarket’s stands are located on a triangular plateau between the streets of Maksim Gorki and Njegoseva, surrounded by a series of small shops, bakers and flower shops. Sellers on the stands are diverse, mostly there are those who resell other goods and you can identify them by a variety of offerings, they often have vegetables that are not seasonal because they sell imported goods. Real sellers are mixed with them - peasants, who sell goods from their properties. At the greenmarket, you can find fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, meat and meat products, cheeses, fish, natural honey, teas and medicinal herbs, homemade flour minced in a water mill, forest mushrooms, spices, collard greens, craft products, pets... Greenmarket business hours: Mon-Sun. 6-20h (at winter time 8-16h). This is the official opening hours when gates are open, but if you want to see the greenmarket in full shine then it's best to come between 8 and 14h, and the biggest crowd is of course during weekends.
