From the city centre we are taking you to the favourite Belgradians' place for excursions - Avala mountain. Visit the Monument of Unknown Hero. Journey continues to Topola and Oplenac, 70km from Belgrade. Topola is a located in the very heart of Šumadija, in the vineyards area, known for the world famous wine production. This small town, rich in history, tells us a tale about the royal family Karađorđević, whose history began here. Karađorđe Petrović, the leader of the First Serbian Uprising and founder of Karađorđević dynasty was born here, beneath Oplenac. This town was the center of many historical events during the 18th, 19th and 20th century. Visit to the town and to the memory complex devoted to him. A famous monument of Karađorđe lies in the center of the plateau, surrounded by the remains of Karađorđe fortress with three story towers built between 1811 and 1813; two residences, now museums and the Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary with iconostasis and frescoes on the walls. Above Topola, on the hill of Oplenac is a complex comprising of the St. George Church, the Karadjordjevic Dynasty Mausoleum and the house of the royal family Karadjordjevic. White marbled five-domed Church is one of the best achievements of fresco painting in Serbia. The vibrant mosaics are magnificently rendered with over 40 million pieces of colored glass. The relics of the Karadjordjevic dynasty are placed in the crypt.
