Description
The tour begins at the Staro Sajmište site, once a World War II concentration camp, now repurposed for residential and commercial uses. You will learn how this area transformed and how Yugoslavia emerged from the war’s aftermath.
Next, visit the Palace of Serbia (formerly SIV), the political center of Socialist Yugoslavia. This building’s 1961 architecture has remained unchanged and symbolizes the country’s political structure under leader Josip Broz Tito.
Travel through New Belgrade, a planned socialist city built from scratch. Along the way, view the Genex Tower, a defining brutalist skyscraper with twin towers linked by a concrete bridge and topped by a UFO-shaped restaurant. The tower marked the western entry to Belgrade via the Brotherhood and Unity Highway.
The tour concludes at Tito’s grave and mausoleum, offering insights into his leadership and legacy. Visit the museum gallery featuring thousands of gifts given to Tito, including a moon rock gifted by Neil Armstrong.
