Description

Rtanj is one of Serbia’s most intriguing mountains, part of the Serbian Carpathians. The peak, Šiljak, rises to 1,565 meters.

Local legend tells of a wizard’s castle once located at the summit, guarding a great treasure. The castle has since vanished into the mountain, trapping the sorcerer within. At the peak are the ruins of a small chapel dedicated to St. George, built in 1932 by the wife of a former miner. The chapel is now partially destroyed after treasure hunters used dynamite to search for hidden gold.

Some believe the mountain's pyramid shape conceals an alien pyramid emitting mystical energies. Before the predicted Mayan Doomsday, many visitors came here seeking protection.
