Description

Depart from your accommodation and travel to the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina. Enjoy scenic views of the Pannonian Plain as you learn about the region’s turbulent history.

In the Fruška Gora area, home to over 16 medieval Orthodox monasteries, visit the Krušedol Monastery before continuing to Sremski Karlovci. This Baroque town features small houses, churches, palaces, and gardens. Visit key sites such as the Chapel of Peace, where a historic peace treaty was signed, the Four Lion Fountain, the Karlovci Gymnasium, the town hall, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas.

Sample Bermet, a distinctive Serbian wine once served on the Titanic, before heading to Petrovaradin Fortress. Built by the Austrian Empire during the 17th and 18th centuries, this fortress was crucial in defending central Europe from Ottoman attacks. Walk through the fortress gates, visit landmarks including the City Museum, old military barracks, and the clock tower, and take in views of the Danube and Novi Sad.

Explore Novi Sad, known as ‘Serbian Athens’ due to its cultural and intellectual heritage. See the Museum of Vojvodina, Dunavski Park—the city’s largest green area—Neo-Romantic Serbian Orthodox Bishop’s Palace, and the 18th-century Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. George with its iconostasis painted by Paja Jovanovic.

Walk through the main street to Liberty Square, visiting the town hall, Roman Catholic Cathedral, Finance Palace, and the neo-classical Vojvodina Hotel. Pass the Serbian National Theater and the city synagogue, a Hungarian Secession-style building and one of Europe’s largest synagogues. After a traditional Serbian lunch (not included), enjoy shopping and free time in Novi Sad before returning to Belgrade.
